- Are my deposits safe?
- Yes. FirstMerit has assumed George Washington Savings Bank deposits as of February 22, 2010. Your deposits are safe, sound and available for your everyday banking. All deposit accounts, which include checking, savings, money market, CDs and Retirement accounts, have been automatically transferred to FirstMerit. Not only are your deposits safe at FirstMerit, they will continue to be insured by the FDIC up to the maximum legal limit.
The accounts transferred to FirstMerit Bank, N.A. will be separately insured for at least six months. This grace period gives a depositor the opportunity to restructure the accounts, if necessary.

- Will my account continue to receive my direct deposit?
- Yes, your direct deposit will continue without interruption.
- Will my account number change?
- All deposit account numbers will remain the same at this time. We will communicate with you well in advance with specific information about any changes or added features to your accounts.
- Can I use my George Washington Savings Bank locations?
- Yes, simply bank as usual and continue to use any of the former George Washington Savings Bank offices to do your banking. Once your account(s) are fully integrated into FirstMerit Bank's system, you will have access to all FirstMerit branches and over 200 ATMs throughout Illinois, Ohio, and western Pennsylvania.
- Can I use the FirstMerit locations?
- At this time, we can only process your transactions at former George Washington Savings Bank offices. We will contact you once the operations have been integrated and all FirstMerit offices are available to you.
- Will the branch hours remain the same?
- At this time our banking hours will remain the same. We will notify you well in advance with any changes in hours.
- Can I continue to use my George Washington Savings Bank checks, deposit slips and Debit/ATM Card?
- Continue to use your current cards and supply of checks and deposit slips. As we integrate your account(s) onto our system, you will receive new checks, cards, and deposit slips from FirstMerit Bank.
- Can I continue to use my George Washington Savings Bank online banking account?
- Continue to do your online banking as you do today. As we integrate your account(s) on our system, you will be notified if there is any change to your online banking.
- I recently submitted a loan application to George Washington Savings Bank. How will this impact my application?
- Please contact your local branch or loan officer for information regarding the status of your loan application.
- What will happen to my loan?
- FirstMerit Bank has assumed mortgage loans, installment loans (such as auto, boat, unsecured) and home equity loans and lines of credit. Continue to make your scheduled payments, sending payments to the same address you have used in the past.
- Can I still access my safe deposit box?
- Yes. You can still access your safe deposit box.
